CJJC is hiring for a full-time lead organizer position. The primary role of the Tenant Rights Clinic Coordinator is to manage the day-to-day operations of both our San Francisco and Oakland Tenant Rights Clinics and to fulfill our vision and goal of helping low-income tenants in San Francisco remain in their homes. The Tenant Rights Clinic falls under the purview of the Housing, Land & Development Team (HLD). This position would be a coordinator within that team, would supervise other staff, and is supervised by team leadership.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
The Tenant Rights Clinic Coordinator is a new role within the housing team and organization and this person will work closely with the leadership of the housing team to ensure consistency, follow-through, quality, and accountability in particular around contracts and reporting requirements, and overall goals for our Tenant Rights Clinics.
Primary duties include:
Manage scheduling system for the San Francisco Tenant Rights Clinic and our Oakland Know Your Rights Workshops
Ensure quality control of our Tenant Rights Clinic tools, systems, and services provided
Monitor overall effectiveness of our rights-based counseling program
Identify and communicate to the team about housing trends that can then inform policy needs, campaigns, or direct action
Assist with problem solving and case/counseling strategy
Gather data and develop reports for our contracts as part of our contract deliverables
Make clinic recommendations based on annual analysis of our data
Build and maintain good communication with contract managers, allies, and other partners connected the work, and represent CJJC in community meetings
Help lead housing team meetings, including agenda planning, and facilitation
Represent CJJC in monthly/quarterly meetings about tenant rights work with city departments
Assist with staff and member meetings, and trainings on tenant rights issues, or other related topics
Collect and share compelling stories of victories and client or member stories, and help keep storybank up to date
Supervise a minimum of two staff and support their overall growth and development
This position will require at least 2 days in the Mission office and 1 days in the Fruitvale office; must be able to commute frequently between Oakland (near Fruitvale BART Station) and SF-Mission offices (near 16th St BART Station)
Support recruitment, retention and member development goals within the housing team and organization
Maintain the database and tracking systems
Help tenants rights counselor-organizers stay updated with legal and legislative changes
Speak to press and elected officials about our work/campaigns as needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong commitment to gender, racial, and economic justice, and alignment with CJJC’s vision and mission
Experience and skills challenging anti-Black racism
Knowledge of local and state tenant rights and laws / tenant counseling experience
Bilingual in Spanish/English languages prefered (proficiency in writing & speaking) but not required
Strong office and team management skills and practice
Proven conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Computer skills – confidence with Word, Excel, Google Calendar and Google Drive required
Outstanding personal organization and time management skills, and attention to details
Must be available to work evenings and weekends
Salary starts at $54,000. Position includes generous benefits package including vacation, PTO, holidays, full medical, dental, vision and more
