Position Summary

CJJC is hiring for a part-time, temporary, non-exempt position. The primary role of the Special Projects Coordinator is to support the Black Tenant Outreach Team in Oakland. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operations of the Black Tenant Outreach Team and will support the scheduling and planning necessary for the success of contract deliverables.  The Special Projects Coordinator will also work closely with members of a community advisory council to ensure that there is consistency, follow-through, and accountability to deadlines and scheduling.


Per the Oakland Contract, an Oakland Housing Secure Community Advisory Council will be created in order to inform partners regarding issues, trends, barriers to access to services for underserved community members, and discussing ideas for providing culturally responsive services and outreach that ensures equitable access to services. The Community Advisory Council will consist of organizers, community members, and members of community-based organizations. Per the Oakland Contract, CJJC will partner with CENTRO to create and implement the Community Advisory Council which will meet no fewer than four (4) times. 


The position is remote-only, per shelter-in-place county restrictions on public gathering spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic.


Primary Roles and Responsibilities

Provide scheduling support for the Black Tenant Outreach Team:

  • Serve as the CJJC primary point of contact for scheduling meetings related to the Oakland Housing Secure (OHS) community advisory council
  • Coordinate scheduling meetings via email and other communication methods
  • Confirm meeting logistics with attendees 
  • Act as the Zoom host and support (letting attendees in, tech troubleshoot, etc.)
  • Other scheduling/coordination responsibilities as needed
  • Attend check-ins with supervisor for updates and assignments


Miscellaneous Organizational Support: 

  • Attend assigned trainings and orientations
  • Manage weekly personal work plan and regular internal & external communications
  • All CJJC staff are expected to support our core work of grassroots community organizing. This may include supporting community members' activities, supporting meeting and event logistics, and participating in voter education and grassroots fundraising.


Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to social, gender, racial and economic justice; alignment with CJJC vision and mission
  • Basic computer skills required: familiarity with web browsers, Doodle, Google Suites (Gmail, Drive, Calendar), Zoom
    • CJJC will provide necessary tech, accounts, and supplies
  • Excellent personal organization and time management skills
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and proactive
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Fluent English required, other languages a plus


Hiring Details

  • $18.50 - $20.50 per hour
  • Part-time, temporary, non-exempt (hourly) employee:
    • 10 hours per week; with the potential of additional hours as needed
    • This is a temporary position and dependent on the contract timeline. 
    • If hired, a minimum of 16 weeks is guaranteed, with the potential to extend in order to fulfill contract deliverables.
